Recycled steel in Chopard watches

Recycled steel in Chopard watches

At Watches & Wonders 2023, luxury watch company Chopard announced that by the end of 2023 it will use Lucent Steel™ containing at least 80 % recycled steel, for the production of all its steel watches, including bracelets and cases.
The company also aims to improve its performance by increasing the percentage of recycled steel to 90% by 2025.
This initiative will enable Chopard to significantly reduce its steel-related CO2 emissions. Going from 50% to 80% recycled content, the production-related emissions are reduced by 30%, while with 90% recycled steel, the emissions cut rises to 40%.
Lucent Steel™ was born out of a desire to create a virtuous, local and circular production cycle.
The high-quality material is made using in-house industrial waste, offcuts from other Swiss watch manufacturers, and steel from the medical, aerospace and automotive industries.
This circular process limits the extraction of raw materials without compromising the quality of the finished product.
Chopard also became the first luxury company to join Climate Group’s SteelZero to partner with its industrial sector and accelerate the transition of the steel industry that aims to reduce net carbon emissions to zero.
