Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation

Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation

The European Commission has adopted the 2025-2030 working plan for the Ecodesign Regulation for Sustainable Products (ESPR) and the Energy Labeling Regulation.
The plan provides a list of products to be prioritized for the introduction of ecodesign and energy labeling requirements over the next five years.

Priority products:
Textiles/clothing: 2027
Tires: 2027
Furniture: 2028
Mattresses: 2029
Iron and steel: 2026
Aluminum: 2027

Horizontal requirements:
Repairability (including score): 2027
Recycled content and recyclability of electrical and electronic equipment: 2029

Footwear is in a separate product category from textiles due to the separate use of materials, product functionality and supply chains. They also have lower impacts than the list of priority end products.
Matrec has long been helping and guiding companies toward the implementation of the Ecodesign Regulation and in particular for measuring the circularity of materials and products, through the use of the CircularTool.
