Leather from beer production waste

Stella McCartney consistent with her philosophy of committed brand in terms of sustainability, has used alternative materials to leather for the creation of some of her products, demonstrating that it is possible to produce luxury fashion with a sustainable and cruelty free approach.

Designer Mi Zhou created for Stella McCartney a leather made of 100% sustainable materials without animal traces or chemicals. The circular material considered comes from the waste from the brewing process, a pulp that is the solid residue of the grain germination and drying process used to produce the malt. Produced in collaboration with a brewery, the designer has developed an alternative leather that fully respects the principles of the circular economy.
