Circular Furniture Design Project

Circular Furniture Design Project

Circular Furniture Design, a project sponsored by SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) in collaboration with four leading international design companies such as Cassina, Poltrona Frau, Zanotta, Cappellini and Matrec for the aspects of circular design, has concluded.

The students, under the leadership of lecturer Niklas Jacobs, came to Italy to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of Milan Design Week2025 where they received project briefs from the four companies: a unique opportunity to engage with industry leaders!

Subsequently, the students developed innovative circular furniture proposals and solutions that they presented directly to companies at a major event held in the United States in Sawannah at SCAD.

Matrec, a partner in the project, in the first phase of the project had the honor of training students on the basic principles of circular design, innovative ecodesign strategies, and methodologies for measuring the circularity of materials and products. Subsequently, Matrec supported the students in creating design solutions characterized by innovation and circularity through the use of new recycled and bio-based materials.

Thanks to our CEO Marco Capellini for his passionate pursuit of this project.
