Biobased bridges in port of Rotterdam

This year, 14 new biobased polymer composite footbridges will be installed in the port of Rotterdam. The share of bioresin in the composite bridges presently stands at 25 percent.
The Port Authority of the city is investing in sustainable innovation and the use of circular materials.
For this reason bridges made of composite materials were chosen as an alternative to concrete, wooden and steel bridges. Composite bridges are easier to transport thanks to their low weight and have a far longer service life.
The company has stated that the percentage of organic polymers can be raised to 45% without sacrificing any mechanical properties.
