ESPR: EU Parliament approves regulation

ESPR: EU Parliament approves regulation

On Wednesday 12 July, the EU Parliament approved the text of ESPR regulation to make products in the EU more sustainable.
With this new proposal, the Parliament reinforces the measures proposed by the EU Commission to ensure a longer durability of products and encourage consumer choice.
The Parliament asks the Commission, for the period 2024-2027, to prioritise the implementation of ecodesign measures for the following product groups: iron, steel, aluminium, textiles, furniture, tyres, detergents, paints, lubricants and chemicals.
Parliament also calls for a specific ban on the destruction of unsold textiles and electrical and electronic equipment.
This is another important step towards the implementation of the ESPR. Companies are called on to design products in a circular way in compliance with the EU regulation. For some time, Matrec has been working with companies from different sectors to measure and implement the circularity requirements of the ESPR towards better product sustainability.
