Puma recycles old football kits to produce new ones

Puma started a experiment to recycle old football kits of the football teams they sponsor, with the aim of producing new ones and closing the loop.
The main obstacle previously encountered was the logos, embroidery and badges of the clubs. With the innovative recycling process developed for the pilot project called ‘Re:Jersey‘, the old garments are depolymerised, i.e. chemically broken down, the colours are filtered out and then the material is chemically reconstituted to create a yarn with the same performance as virgin polyester.
The uniforms resulting from the Re:Jersey project are made up of 75% converted old uniforms and 25% post-consumer recycled polyester yarn derived from marine plastic waste.
