H&M and Lee: measuring and communicating the environmental impact of garments

H&M and Lee have collaborated to create a new sustainable capsule collection with the aim of promoting transparency towards customers, measuring and communicating the environmental impact of individual garments during their life cycle.

Through the website and selected stores of the chain, H&M has made it possible to consult the environmental impact data, with reference to CO2 equivalent emissions, primary energy used and water consumption generated, comparing the results with the production of the same product made with conventional materials.

The protagonists of the collection are jeans made of 100% recycled cotton, 80% of which is obtained from recycled post-industrial textile scraps while the remaining 20% comes from recycled post-consumer waste obtained from old garments, the label of the pants is made of certified cork and jacron paper, while the thread of the seams is made of 100% recycled polyester.

Other representative garments of the collection launched in partnership by the two brands, are jackets made from 40% organic cotton, 20% recycled old garments, another 20% from industrial textile waste and the remaining 20% from hemp.
