New circular economy business models based on resource sharing

A Dutch company founded in 2019, promotes a business model of circular economy, offering the European market a new vision for the supply of clothing for pregnant women and babies. The target group is very specific precisely because they are people who will be able to use the garments for a very limited period of time.
The service consists of a monthly subscription to an online store with a wide selection of brands, through which it is possible to rent high quality clothes, use them until they meet the needs of the moment and then return and order others according to new needs. The price includes laundry and dry-cleaning costs to be able to sanitize the clothes back at the base.
This sustainable approach makes it possible to save thousands of litres of water and material resources that the textile industry uses to produce.
The numbers published by the company show that about 8/10 families use the same garments and extend their useful life. Once the garment is worn out and not suitable for a new use, the company recycles it for the production of new products.
A sustainable, vegetable-based, biodegradable and compostable packaging made from corn starch has been identified for the shipping.
This business model highlights three key principles of the circular economy such as the sharing of resources, extension of the useful life of the product and finally, end-of-life management with recycling destination.
