LEGO presents the first sustainable bricks

LEGO, the world’s renowned manufacturer of toy bricks, has started the production on a range of sustainable elements made of circular materialbio-plastic sourced from sugarcane. These are botanical elements such as leaves, bushes and trees and will be available from 2018.
The new sustainable elements are made from polyethylene made from ethanol produced from sugarcane, which is a soft, durable and flexible plastic, they are technically identical to those produced using conventional plastic.
To ensure maximum safety of the children who will use them, the elements have been tested to ensure the plant-based plastic meets the high standards for quality and safety of LEGO Group.
In addition, the company has worked with the WWF to make sure that the sugarcane used is sourced sustainably in accordance with guidance from the Bioplastic Feedstock Alliance (BFA) and is certified by the Bonsucro Chain of Custody standard for responsibly sourced sugarcane.
